Photos from October exhibition

These photos are long overdue. From the show I had at The Gallery @ Equal=Grounds. The show consisted of 19 new paintings all done with acrylic paint, ink, charcoal, conté, and oil stick on paper and mounted to board. Overall, the show looked really dark and mysterious and surprisingly almost all of the paintings looked great on the strange orange walls they have in the gallery. Images of each of these paintings will soon be on www.bradleybutler.net and some of them are currently on display and for sale at the Firehouse Gallery @ Genesee Center for the Arts and Education on Monroe Ave in Rochester (where I work).

First Friday Rochester Art Opening 10/7/2011

An exhibition of entirely new work will be on display at The Gallery at Equal=Grounds on South Avenue in Rochester, NY from October 7 – 29, 2011. The title of the show is There Is No Up or Down, Paintings on Paper by Bradley Butler and the opening reception will be held on Friday October 7th from 7pm–9pm.

NYFA MARK 2011

Recently, I along with a group of amazing artists took part in NYFA’s MARK program. It was a great look into career development and goal setting, taking advantage of opportunities that surround us, and networking. You can view many of the artists’ work from the upstate area at the NYFA MARK Alumni site, my work is hosted there as well (under “Buffalo 2011″).

In other news, I have an exhibition coming up in October at Equal=Grounds Coffee House. It is scheduled as a First Friday Event, more information on that in the coming months…

What’s happening in the studio?

Some of the new work that I have been doing. Paintings in all stages of development…

Photos from Opening Reception

Here are some photos from the opening on Friday October 1, 2010.

Update, review, etc.

There has been a flurry of activity both in the studio and elsewhere which has caused me to be a bit lax in my updating this blog and my website. Below is a short review of the show at Joy Gallery by Alan Singer, artist, professor, and art writer extraordinaire:

Recent graduates take over the Joy Gallery on Rochester’s west side for a two person essay on the state of abstract art in a show titled “Hard Work”.  Here lyrical layers of color in deeper tones by Bradley Butler rub shoulders with hard edge grids of color by Rick Minard.  Butler has a knack for improvisation and the experiments can be dark, poetic and oceanic.  Minard on the other hand is more analytical, precise and buoyant in his color choices.

— Alan Singer, The Visual Artworker (art blog) | Stepping Out for Art, Posted 10/6/2010

The show actually stayed up at the gallery  for almost a month longer than expected, so, if you have yet to see it, make a point to stop by on Saturday from 12 noon – 4 pm! Photos will be uploaded from the opening soon…

The work is hung!

Rick and I finished hanging the show at Joy Gallery yesterday. The ancillary materials (labels, etc.) will go up before Saturday. Be sure to come to the opening reception (FIRST FRIDAY) October 1, 2010 from 6pm – 9pm…

Featured in the Democrat and Chronicle…in print and online.

I was featured in yesterday’s Democrat and Chronicle! The front page of the “Living” section has a small blurb and photo of a painting which will be featured at the Joy Gallery in the HARD WORK! exhibition with Rick Minard… Read the full article online, here.

* The photo of me in the online article was taken by my sister, a brilliant young photographer, Sarah A. Butler. You can view her work here
